Early Life: Keith was born in Charles City, Iowa. He grew up helping on the family farm. His parents farmed near Clarksville and later farmed near New Hampton. Keith enjoyed participating in 4-H, hunting and fishing. Keith’s first introduction to finance was through 4-H livestock projects, which required keeping records of costs and sales.
Education: Keith is a 1985 graduate of New Hampton High School. He is an Iowa State University graduate, earning a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in civil engineering. Keith later earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Colorado State University.
Family Life: Keith is married to Julie Grau Laube, originally from Newell, Iowa. Keith and Julie have 3 children and 1 grandchild. Their oldest daughter lives in Arizona with her husband and a precious grandchild. They have a son and a daughter attending Newton High School.
Professional: Keith has 18 years of experience in the private sector working in engineering consulting and 4 years of experience in city government. Keith is currently the Public Works Director for the City of Newton. He started and operated an engineering company prior to being employed by the City of Newton. Keith’s years of working in the private sector have instilled a strong passion for efficiencies and doing what is financially best in the long term for the taxpayer.
Organizations: Keith currently serves on the Central Iowa Regional Transportation Planning Association (CIRTPA), and has previously served on a county Health Board, his church board, and as a past officer of the Colorado Society of Professional Engineers.
Hobbies/Activities: Keith plays tenor saxophone in the Newton Municipal Band and he performed in the Newton Community Theater production of “Oklahoma”. Keith stays physically fit by playing basketball, skiing, competing in several triathlons throughout Iowa each year and running in the Living History Farms road race each November with his son Christian.
